Wildlife Spotting
in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a wildlife lover’s paradise, with abundant species condensed in a small country. Spotting animals in their natural habitats is a highlight for many visitors.

At Tavo Leon Customized Tours, we specialize in wildlife viewing practices that are sustainable, educational, and respectful.

Our naturalist guides ensure no disruption or harassment occurs during wildlife encounters in Costa Rica.

We want to foster appreciation and curiosity for the natural world, not disruptive behavior. That’s why we use top-quality, long-range optical gear like our Vortex Razor HD 27-60 x 85 telescope and Swarovski 10×42 binoculars. These allow close-up viewing from a distance, so animals can carry on with normal behaviors undisturbed.

Christmas in Costa Rica

Birdwatchers will be thrilled spotting over 900 bird species, from colorful toucans and parrots, to soaring raptors like eagles, hawks and ospreys.

Songbirds in the understory include motmots, manakins and antbirds. And an abundance of shorebirds and waterfowl inhabit wetland areas.

Smaller mammals also abound, like monkeys, coatimundis, agoutis, peccaries and anteaters. Costa Rica has four monkey species, often traveling in noisy troops through the canopy. Spider monkeys are acrobatic, while howler monkeys are known for their loud roars. White-faced capuchins are intelligent and squirrel monkeys are quite social.

With expert guidance to the best wildlife hotspots, we make spotting iconic Costa Rican animals easy while adhering to sustainable practices.

Our goal is to foster passion and curiosity for the natural world through ethical wildlife viewing in Costa Rica.
